Gigs

  • What can I showcase at Mastul?

We currently host a wide variety of concerts (all genres), as well as interactive games, readings, film screenings, exhibitions, and discussions.

As long as your event doesn’t conflict with our values (e.g. extremist content), we’re happy to hear your proposal! Just send us an email at bambule@mastul.de or use our contact form.

Please note: Our space cannot be rented for private events like birthday parties.

Promotion

  • Do you promote my event?

We’ve found that our events are best attended when bands or artists actively promote them through their own channels.

We mainly run online ads on Facebook, Instagram, and our website. In the venue itself, we display a monthly poster featuring your event. For that we need from you:

    • A short two-line blurb for the poster

    • Optionally, a longer description for our website

    • Your social links (Instagram, Spotify, Soundcloud, or website)

    • And 1–2 images: one landscape (1000 × 524 px) for Facebook and one square (1080 × 1080 px) for Instagram

Please send your texts, links, and images as early as possible—the sooner we have them, the bigger the impact and the higher the turnout. The final deadline is always the 1st of the previous month!

  • How should I market my event?

Many artists design their own posters and share on social media. Listing on event portals (Mit Vergnügen, Gratis in Berlin, Rausgegangen Berlin, etc.) can also boost your reach.

Technical Setup

  • What gear do you have on site?

    We can offer:

    • Behringer Xenyx FX 4-channel mixer

    • 2 SM58-style microphones

    • 1 DI box

    • Approximately 5 XLR cables

Our PA consists of a solid amp and two compact Hi-Fi speakers that reliably deliver great sound. The room’s acoustics are tuned so well that usually only vocals need amplification.

  • Do you have instruments on site?

You’re welcome to use our regularly tuned piano on stage for your performance.

Volume

  • How loud can we get?

Since we’re located in a residential building, we must keep volume in check. Extremely loud drums, oversized guitar amps, or overly heavy sound aren’t feasible. We do have soundproofing, but keep in mind there’s a bedroom directly above the stage. Our neighbors are very tolerant—please be considerate in return.

Soundcheck & Schedule

  • When can I arrive?

Get-in and soundchecks start at 7 pm. Doors open for guests at 8 pm. Showtime runs from 8:30 pm to 11 pm sharp. You can structure your set as you wish, but everything must wrap up by 11 pm. If there’s no other agreement with us, the concert starts at 8:30 pm.

A break in the program is usually a good idea.

Seating & Capacity

  • How many people fit in Mastul?

With our relaxed, comfortable seating, we can host up to 36 people. Using beer benches and extra seating brings us to about 42 – though that gets quite cozy. Thanks to the open connection to the bar area, guests can still see the stage well.

Payment

  • Will I get paid for my gig?

We don’t charge admission, and we don’t pay artist fees. All performers are on a donation (“hat”) basis. On average, the hat totals between €100 and €200, depending on attendance – but we can’t guarantee a specific amount. You’re welcome to sell merch at the bar.

If you’d like, you can arrange with the bar staff for us to pass around the hat. Some team members aren’t comfortable with that, while others are fine.

GEMA (Performing Rights)

  • What about GEMA reporting?

Our GEMA setlist reporting is fully digital. We’ll send you a link to our GEMA submission form where you can enter the songs played after your show.

Please indicate whether you’re a GEMA member or if you performed GEMA-protected works. We cover any reporting fees charged by GEMA.

Refreshments

  • Can I get a drink from the bar?

We serve several non-alcoholic and low-alcohol drinks for free. There’s enough for a few beers or wines, but it’s not an all-night Rockstar drinking flatrate.

We don’t provide food, but we’re happy to point you toward the neighborhood’s culinary highlights.

Smoking

  • Is Mastul a smoking venue?

Mastul is a smoking bar. However, during events we keep the stage room smoke-free.
